Refugees are losing SNAP. Your support makes the difference.
SNAP benefits are cut during the government shutdown as of November 1, and come December 1 refugees without Green Cards will lose eligibility for food assistance completely. RefugeeOne knows this will be difficult for many newcomers who are still finding their footing in Chicago. Our Refugee Assistance Fund can help bridge the gap with rent or food support for families in need.
About the Need
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) has harmful impact on newcomers, including increases immigration fees and dramatically reduced healthcare and food support. These changes prevent refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian entrants from accessing food assistance, known as SNAP, before they attain a Green Card, leaving the most vulnerable newcomers without the food assistance they’ve historically relied on.
